Thank you for inquiring about the Relationship Development
Center and how our program is helping children and adolescents
affected with autism, Asperger's syndrome, and development
disabilities reach their potentials. Our program was designed
to replicate typical development while focusing on each
child's individual needs.
When my son was diagnosed with autism in 1997, I began
a journey to find the best treatments available. While
he made significant gains using traditional methods such
as behavioral therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy
and biomedical interventions, nothing seemed to treat
his core deficits. He had an enormous knowledge base but
never engaged in meaningful conversations or social interactions.
It was not until I started researching how typical children
develop that I was able to understand his needs and how
I could help him.
Armed with the knowledge, I founded the Relationship Development
Center to assist other families affected by autism spectrum
disorders. Our program model is a parent-based lifestyle
approach which uses the best practices and techniques
to educate children. We go beyond social stories and behavioral
outcomes to teach children to think and navigate social
interactions.
We start with a comprehensive assessment to determine
your child's ability to participate in emotional relationships.
Some of the areas we measure are your child's abilities
to read non-verbal communication, reference for information,
and coordinate his/her actions. Based on the outcomes
of the assessment, a treatment plan is developed to meet
your child's needs.
We teach you
lifestyle techniques to change how you are interacting
with your child and provide ongoing support and consultation.
You learn how to encourage your child to use and understand
communication, be flexible and problem solve.
I would be delighted to speak with you to share the successes
of our new autism spectrum disorders program approach
and provide techniques to assist your child.
